Tinned Fish stamp - version 1

My quest to understand how ’tiles’ work continues…

The inspiration for this tile stamp was an episode of Travelman: 48 hours in Lisbon (if you haven’t watched Richard Ayoade and friends’ travel show, I highly recommend it).

In this particular episode Richard and travel buddy Adam Buxton visited a little tinned fish emporium in Lisbon. I don’t know how much attention you pay to tinned fish labels, but you can get some incredibly cool designs and this little shop was chock full of them! I just wish they had spent a little more time panning across the tins…

Throughout the episode you get glimpses of the beautiful Azulejos (ceramic tiles) that the Portuguese are famous and some seriously pretty back streets. Not only has Lisbon gone straight to the top of my travel bucket list, but it sparked this…

Azulejos + tinned fish = new ink stamp

I can’t wait for the next episode!

Back to the ink stamp…

Just like the last ink stamp project, the first version wasn’t quite what I had imagined, so I carved a new one. Time consuming, but worth it because I now have a lovely new hand printed lampshade for my desk.

Off the back of this, I have also run this design through illustrator with it in mind to have a little bit of wall paper printed. I am not sure what I will do with it yet, but I am sure I will come up with something.

Until next time…
