feather & LEAVES
Easter arrangement by
Sewing Daisies
This Easter wreath measures approx 30cm in diameter,
and is made up of 7 main egg & leaf bundles
& 7 smaller leaf only sections.
Materials needed:
Parafilm or floral tape
21 small decorative eggs (with hanging loop), 3 assorted colours
98 skeleton leaves (5 assorted colours)
floral wire stems 46cm in lenght (medium gauge)
* I used Parafilm tape
Preparation work:
1a: cut floral wire into approx 23cm pieces (119 in total)
1b: bend the top of the smaller wire pieces 2 cm over, ready for wiring
2a: set aside 7 x 46 cm wire pieces
2b: bend the top thrid of wire over and tape over.
3: tie a loose knot in all of the egg hanging loop
(close to the top)
Wiring Part 1 – Eggs
1a: take 1x floral wire stem (with top 2 cm bent over)
1b: thread 1x egg onto the bent over end of wire
1c: push the the two wire pieces together tight
1d: tighten the knot, and wrap the hanging loop around the wire
1e: tape (parafilm) the egg onto the wire stem.
* parafilm goes a long way
if you warm the end of the tape between your fingers
& gently stretch it out as you wrap.
2: arrange your eggs into sets of 3 (one of each colour),
You should have 7 sets in total.
Wiring Part 2 – Leaves
a: 98 individual leaves
1a: take 1x floral wire stem (with top 2 cm bent over)
1b: thread 1x leaf onto bent over top of wire
(hook the wire approx cm up the leaf and close to the center)
1c: push the the two wire pieces together tight
1d: tape (parafilm) around the top of the leaf (where the wire meets leaf)
and tape down the floral wire stem for approx 3 cm.
b: 14 sets of 3 leaf branches
1b: take 3x different coloured taped leaves,
2b: bind them (parafilm) together approx 3-4 cm from the
top of the floral wire stem.
Make 14 sets.
*I spaced my 3 leaves out to create a nice little fan.
c: 28 sets of 2 leaf branches
1c: take 2x different coloured leaves,
2c: bind them (parafilm) together approx 3-4 cm from the top
of the floral wire stem.
Make 28 sets.
Assembling Part 1 –
creating the main egg & leaf bundle
1a: place 1x lead wire onto your table
1b: take 2x 3 leaf sets and place then gently over the lead wire,
leaving approx 10cm of the lead wire exposed & approx 3-4 cm gap
between the middle leaves of each set.
1c: place 1 egg stem just below the stem of the second leaf set (see above)
1d: gently tape all 3 sections together.
2: add 2x 2 leaf sets AND 2x egg stems, tape to 1a.
3: add 2x 2 leaf sets and tape to 1a & 1b.
After the taping has been completed you should
end up with a nice small bundle (bouquet) of leaves & eggs.
Repeat until you have 7x main egg & leaf bundles.
NOTE: DO NOT TRIM THE STEMS OF YOUR SECTIONS.
You ned to keep your stems in order to join
them together to create a wreath.
Assembling part 2 –
joining the 7 main bundles together
1a: take 3x main bundles and place them gently over each other
with an approx 8 cm gap between them*
1b: tape the 3x main bundles together to create a long single
stem of leaves & eggs.
* the excess lead wire should run along underneath the previous bundle.
2a: take 4x main bundles and place them gently
over each other with an approx 8 cm gap between them*
2b: tape the 4x main bundles together to create a long single
stem of leaves & eggs.
You should now have two long single stems of eggs & leaves.
3: tape the two long stems of eggs & leaves together
to form one stem.
Assembling Part 3 –
filling the gaps & shaping
a: take 2x two leaf sets and tape them into the open gaps
between the main bundles.
Repeat until each of the gaps have been filled with 4 leaves.
b: gently shape your single stem (the smaller 4 leaf sections are best for this)
so it forms a circle.
c: tape the two ends up & tease your leaves out to fill any remaining gaps.
You have now finished your Easter arrangement.
